M Ravi Chandran - "While I was at college I had five student friends from Zimbabwe. We used to use drugs, there were girls around, and we used to have sex. It was a fun-filled time. We were not aware of the dangers, nor were we interested. When they told me I was HIV positive I became very depressed. I would find myself at the roadside drunk. My life was hell. I met Lakshmi at the South India AIDS Action programme, and we were married. It was the first positive/positive marriage. My parents don’t know we are married or that I am HIV positive, or that I was an addict. The neighbours don’t know either; they won’t accept us. When the community will accept us then we can tell them."
